Negativity Bias

Feb 12, 2025

Why do we tend to focus on the NEGATIVE?

Why, after a great day at work, do we lie awake in bed replaying one awkward moment?

Why, in a sea of 100 positive comments, will 1 negative remark catch our eye and, maybe, ruin our day...

It's called Negativity Bias— an evolutionary trait designed to keep us safe

Early humans faced life-or-death situations where being alert to danger was crucial for survival 🕷️🐍

Those who were more aware of threats and quick to respond to danger were the ones who survived and passed on their genes.

By prioritizing potential danger, it increases our chances of staying safe, even if it means we sometimes overlook the good around us.

Work can be stressful, and it can be easy (natural even) to overlook the good things

Workplaces can become toxic when negativity proliferates

To create a great workplace culture, we must actively seek out and celebrate the positive, especially the positive contributions of our great colleagues
